2007/08: LAKE KIVU METHANE GAS PROJECT
rwanda
arrow Lake Kivu is located on the border of Rwanda and the DRC. The lake contains a renewable energy source in the form of methane gas which is in solution some 350m below the lake surface. The Project to extract the methane gas to be used for power generation is to be divided into two phases.
arrow Phase 1 of the project is a single-module, full-scale first-of-a-kind developmental gas production pilot-plant designed to produce enough gas to generate up to 4MW of grid power in a power plant.
arrow Phase 2 of the project consists of a multi-module commercial facility intended to produce 50 MW of electrical grid power.
